New Dyslexia Specific Services

Targeted Assessment

In recent years, efforts to better understand the science of reading and offer informed interventions has been the focus of research and discussion in the field of Dyslexia and it has resulted in changes in laws with respect to identification and early assessment and intervention.

For some children, acquiring fluent reading and written language skills is especially challenging and for these students, early identification and structured literacy instruction is essential.  Children who fall behind in early literacy skills as early as 1st grade, have a very low chance of catching up without intensive, structured literacy.

No Barriers to Learning is pleased to offer services that specifically target the early identification and treatments of  young children who are at risk for having difficulties learning to read.

Structured Literacy is characterized by the provision of systematic, explicit instruction that integrates listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Structured Literacy teaches the structure of language across the speech sound system (phonology), the writing system (orthography), the structure of sentences (syntax), the meaningful parts of words (morphology), the relationships among words (semantics), and the organization of spoken and written discourse (International Dyslexia Association).

This service is designed to help you find the right path as your child learns to read write and spell.

An assessment for dyslexia and other reading difficulties at No Barriers to Learning will help you make life changing decisions for your child’s future success and help you find clarity regarding questions and concerns surrounding your child’s educational path.

When you schedule a dyslexia assessment you’ve taken the first step in understanding that your child may need a different type of instruction and becoming a stronger advocate in your child’s educational journey.

An assessment at No Barriers to Learning includes listening to your concerns, evaluating your child’s reading, writing and spelling skills and providing direction for you and your child. We will provide an in-depth assessment of your child’s unique literacy profile and develop recommendations based on 40 plus years of research and 30 plus years of one-on-one experience in the field.

Dyslexia assessments for early identification and treatment will target children in grades K-3, typically last 1-2—hours and include evaluations of verbal, phonological, alphabet, reading and writing and spelling skills.

Similar assessments also are available targeting the unique needs of students in grades 4-12 with a history of struggling to acquire the literacy skills they need to apply to the higher-level content typical in late elementary through high school.

Targeted Intervention

The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in significant social and economic upheavals for many months, including the provision of instruction for students of all ages and learning needs.  Students with special learning needs have been one of the hardest hit groups, with many children failing to receive most or even all of the services in their IEPs.

No Barriers To Learning will also offer diagnostic tutoring and more sustained targeted tutorial instruction in literacy and math on a sliding fee scale to help bridge the widening learning gap that is likely to have resulted from instructional restrictions during the recent school closures.
